Gemmzine Editorial 11/19/09 | | | | | Written by Joe Viglione | Thursday, 19 November 2009 00:04 | Pattinson, Ray Davies on Letterman New CDs from Dick Wagner Cy Curnin Susan Boyle a huge smash on CD
Robert Pattinson was interviewed on David Letterman last night and despite the coup and the fun chat where Letterman completely dropped the ball was boring his audience to tears with a lame Sesame Street parody before going into the tremendous version of "You Really Got Me" with Ray Davies...and not interviewing Davies. What is wrong with these people? Davies is on tour with a choral group and superb rearrangements of his material and Letterman talks about...Sesame Street. Not even the Count in honor of Twilight, David chats up "Cookie Monster"... Twilight! The Love that dare not speak it's name. New Moon is going for a "big bite of the box office" according to some trades....and while the "new kids on the movie screen" are raking in the bucks, the old standbys of the modern-era Hollywood don't seem to be faring as well...Eddie Murphy and Will Farrell having problems generating the value for their...I mean your...dollar ...the great Dick Wagner has a CD out, "Full Meltdown", and the producer of Mark Farner and guitarist for Alice Cooper and Lou Reed should be unleashing more of his magic on the world. More about Dick in Gemmzine soon. Cy Curnin of The Fixx also has a superb new CD out...it's utterly fantastic and my review of it will be up here in the next few days. Also appearing on Gemmzine will be reviews of a new book on David Bowie by Marc Spitz, The Freedom To Rock by T.L. Rotkiewicz - a unique record industry fantasy that is very worthy of your time as well as the new tome on Leonard Cohen our good friends at MVD have in release- Hallelujah indeed! On another serious matter, the L.A. Times puts the budget of the Modern Warfare game at 200M while the monies generated are said to be 550 million in just 5 days...Janet Jackson is talking about Michael Jackson and the new Marty Balin DVD "Live On The Boston Esplanade" produced and directed by yours truly, was released on November 18, 2009. It's made the news in Medford, Mass! along with my interview with Michael Moore...today Medford, tomorrow the world! And speaking of conquering the world, Susan Boyle's new CD has a brilliant rendition of The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses" with a nice dash of Marianne Faithful innocence and those exquisite pipes adding something unique and special to the old chestnut. The late Larry Fallon was in a band with the late Jimmy Miller, legendary producer of the Stones. Fallon created a string arrangement for "Wild Horses" that was never released. That would be sublime on a boxed set by the Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World...especially with Boyle bringing big attention to their old copyright. BEATExpo November 29, 2009 Stamford Connecticut! Be there! Spany & Our Gang, The Fifth Estate, Ian Lloyd of Stories, John Ford of The Strawbs and more! GEMMZINE moving up on the Alexa charts! In America we are in the top 110,312 of websites with thousands of hits since we opened in February of 2009 (at around 25 million on Alexa, so the improvement is amazing). Google is the #1 site, Facebook is #2, MySpace is #11 and dropping, USA Today.com is #495, Gemm.com itself is 45,367 and rising (up 2%) - so that's how that works. Our goal is to have Gemmzine in the top 100,000 in the world by our first anniversary...February 2010... BEATLES ROCK BAND SALES: According to Wikipedia.org The Beatles Rock Band was released on September 9, 2009 and has "total sales across all platforms in the United States was 595,000 units with revenue between $59-60 million" - of course Wikipedia doesn't update as rapidly as Nielsen Media Research but it is clear no one album by the biggest band of all time made so much money within such a short space of time.

It is Terminator-styled violence with explosion after explosion, sure to excite the male audience and definitely a bad influence for those who cannot separate fiction from reality. External link
REPORTS OF STEVEN TYLER LEAVING AEROSMITH by Rohin Guha Steven Tyler, in a diva-ish homage to Geri Halliwell's abrupt exit from the Spice Girls in 1998, stunned his bandmates with news/lack of further explanation of his own departure. Guitarist Joe Perry says that he knows nothing further, while bassist Tom Hamilton glibly offers how Tyler is always angry at the band. DB Techno.com
Boston Herald on Tyler/Perry split
I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band,” Perry told the Las Vegas Sun . “I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don’t know.” According to Perry, he’s been working hard to remain relaxed. “Frankly, the last few months, I’ve been wanting not to rock the boat. I don’t want him canceling any more gigs,” Ax man Perry also says the band doesn’t have any qualms about continuing without Tyler and finding a new band member to “move the Aerosmith vibe up a notch.” | Last Updated on Monday, 09 November 2009 05:50 | | |

Michael Jackson's THIS IS IT review Read Gemmzine editor Joe Viglione's review here: The documentary film THIS IS IT is a stunning look inside a magician's bag of tricks, a behind-the-scenes chronicle of how a major music tour is put together. On that level alone it is worth more than a view, This Is It becomes the perfect textbook for any college course on marketing intellectual property. In addition to that, This Is It also provides a superior look at the construction (and deconstruction) of some music that is as familiar or almost as familiar worldwide as the music of The Beatles.

Now he may be gone, but judging by the latest numbers from the smash documentary "Michael Jackson's This Is It," the iconic entertainer is continuing to astound. Following on the heels of Tuesday night's $2.2 million haul at a series of midnight showings, "This Is It" took in another $7.4 million in its first full day of release — and another $12.7 million overseas. MISSION STATEMENT and STAFF
Our staff is growing and our writers have street cred as well as lengthy resumes! Some of us have worked on magazines together dating back to the 1970s and 1980s.
Jakob Anser's article on Miles Davis gives Gemmzine a look at an iconic jazz figure. Jakob has sold on GEMM and has a unique perspective on what both Gemm buyers and Gemm retailers need from our content.
Joseph Tortelli is well respected in literary circles for his liner notes on Delaney & Bonnie and 60s treasure The Fifth Estate as well as countless record reviews and interviews in the pages of Record Collector Magazine, Discoveries and Goldmine. Mr. Tortelli is currently writing the biography of R & B legend Bobby Hebb as well as the liner notes to the Fifth Estate's boxed set.
Luciano Corelli handles classical music articles - opera and symphony. His interview with Ilona Massey from the film The Wolfman was published in my magazine Varulven in the early 1970s. Both the DVD of Abbott & Costello Meets Frankenstein and the classic book "It's Alive!" have referenced that interview which, we are proud to say, will come alive again in edited form on Gemmzine.com
Nancy Foster edited New Age and Fizz Pop fanzines before leaving us in the dust to edit national magazines like Fifteen Fever, Super Rock and the prestigious OUI. Her article on NICO from Oui might get published on Gemmzine as we are going to explore Andy Warhol and The Velvet Underground on Gemmzine sooner than later.
Robert Barry Francos edited many of the above for his legendary Ffanzeen publication. In fact, my interviews with Robbie Krieger of The Doors and Tommy James of The Shondells will probably come back to life here when I ship them out to Owen Scott who is the man who makes Gemmzine a reality. If I'm the director than Owen is the cameraman and Roger Raffee the producer.
Our Mission Statement is unique and exciting. We are developing a new magazine which will bring a variety of content to the web that you can't find anywhere else. "Track By Track" TM is our interviews with artists on their new releases as well as old! Spanky McFarlane and the members of her new "Our Gang" will help us better understand what went into the making of "Back Home Americana, Vol. 1", her first release in decades. David Kubinec has agreed to talk about his re-release of the legendary RATS second album. Kubinec was produced by John Cale on A & M records, so that gives us an opportunity to discuss his work with Cale and cross reference it with our pages on The Velvet Underground, to be posting soon. Ian Lloyd from STORIES is going to go "Track By Track" on his new release, O-de-PO, which features a remake of Brother Louie, and all the connections that Ian has, from singing back-ups on many of the Foreigner hits to his involvement in the days prior to Foreigner being formed gives our readers something you won't find on Rolling Stone, Spin or Amazon or eBay.
Gemm.com is first and foremost a portal to over 20,000 web retailers. We ask that you consider purchasing your books, DVDs, music and other collectibles on http://www.gemm.com/ because that is how this magazine exists, through the efforts of Roger, Owen, myself and the staff named above along with many others who may be profiled in future issues.
Please chat up our magazine. When you see our directory of TinyURLS tell your friends about the articles here. Our writers have the contacts and the experience to give you specific information and content that is available, perhaps, only in this forum.
Support Gemm.com by supporting our retailers. Check out the items because you will probably find the best prices by searching our ever improving site.
